ABOUT

Voice to the public that is public school

"The universe is made of stories, not atoms."   Muriel Rukeyser

MISSION POSSIBLE

Nothing impacts more Rhode Islanders than education.  Many want change but don’t know how to help, disengaged by the often politicized, polarizing conversations that widen the family-teacher-administrator gap.

Learning401 is a focused effort to engage the masses and revamp our RI education ecosystem. Our vision is to create a digital library of powerful learning stories that shift the education debate and give voice to the public who are public education.

More than shining the light (or camera) on powerful learning, we’re starting a movement, engaging Rhode Islanders to own their role/contribution – students, parents, educators, employers, community leaders – from wherever they stand.

The result: a more innovative means to engage and gauge learning in ways that testing alone cannot, with digital assets to effect local/state policy and inform classroom/curriculum design.

We ALL know what it feels like to be totally interested and engaged in learning something new. Every person, young and old, is a treasure trove of powerful learning stories – experiences that shape who we are, what we're good at, what we believe and why.

Stitched together, our stories paint an illustrative picture of what powerful learning is and can be – in ways that test scores and ranking cannot.

Key word here: STORIES.  No matter where you stand in the education debate - for testing or against it, Democrat or Republican - we ALL can agree WE WANT MORE POWERFUL LEARNING. Period.

This is the essence of Learning401 in Rhode Island: creating a safe, nonpartisan forum for storytelling, combined with rich conversation around what learning IS and CAN BE.

We're embarking on a paradigm shift in Rhode Island education that is owned and operated by We the People.  A culture change at this scale is all our responsibilty; not just our policy maker's, and certainly not just our teachers.

Join us as we give voice to the public that makes up our public schools, changing how we think, talk, and design powerful learning communities.
